FIFA World Cup 2018: The Global Sporting Festival Impacts Everyone, Everywhere including us at Westf

Updated: Oct 16, 2018

The FIFA World Cup is undoubtedly the most celebrated sporting event in the world. The entire planet across cultures, ethnic groups and nations converge either in the stadiums to witness the euphoria live or on the television (and on their tablets or phones and even large screens in modern times) to celebrate the most popular event once in every four years.

We, at Westford, have students from 107 different countries and some of their national teams are fiercely competing in the tournament as well. We are probably one of the few organizations who have joined the celebration by announcing various events during this memorable event.

We could have one of our Fast Track MBA students from UAE recalling how they celebrated UAE’s entry into the World Cup in 1990. Or, one of our Executive MBA student from KSA passionately following their progress in the World Cup and celebrating the fact that the opening game of the greatest tournament of the world watched by billions around the planet involved their dream team. And, we may have one of our student from Morocco supporting their National team in the spirit of patriotism and simultaneously supporting Argentina for passionate reason of Messi from Barcelona playing in the same team. Our students from England could support their home team and simultaneously join hands with their Egyptian counterparts just because Mo-Salah plays for Liverpool. The celebration stretches beyond patriotism, beyond cultures, and far beyond just football.

We, at Westford University College rejoice in celebrating the cultural diversity our students from 107 countries share and the FIFA World Cup is just another avenue. We believe in fostering the learning environment for our students to network and share their perspectives in the light of diversity.

We promote a culture of learning beyond academics and Sports plays an integral part. We offer both indoor and outdoor sporting infrastructure and regularly organize sporting events to encourage our students to actively participate and engage in sports. Our students also participate in various inter university tournaments (some of the recent events include Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Cricket, Badminton, Throw ball and Table Tennis) which help our students compete and build their networking and collaborative skills.

Some of the skills and attributes that help our students include:

1. How to work in teams

2. Strategic Thinking

3. Execution of strategies

4. Problem solving

5. Leadership

6. Perseverance and Endurance

7. Effective communication

8. Learning from failure and success

9. Goal Setting

10. How excellence in sports leads to professional growth
