What is the Difference Between Higher National Diplomas and Higher National Certificates?

According to Government of United Kingdom, ‘’Higher National Certificates (HNCs) and Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) are work-related, or vocational, higher education qualifications. They are Level 4 and Level 5 qualifications respectively’’

HND is a higher education qualification of United Kingdom, which can be used to get enrolled universities at an advanced level. A Higher National Diploma is equivalent to the second year of a three year degree course.

A Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a higher education qualification in the United Kingdom. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the HNC is a BTEC qualification awarded by Edexcel. The attainment level of the qualification is roughly equivalent to one year of university and a Certificate of Higher Education but being less than that of a Higher National Diploma (HND).

HNCs and HNDs are available in a wide range of subjects like agriculture, computing and IT, construction and civil engineering, health and social care, business and management, sport and exercise sciences, performing arts, retail and distribution, hospitality management and more.

Most HND courses require one A level or an equivalent qualification.
