What is the Difference between Supply Chain Management and Logistics Management?

The terms Logistics Management and Supply Chain Management are used by different companies in different perspectives. Logistics generally involves the strategies in coordinating the marketing and production departments. While Supply chain management concentrates more on purchase and procurement activities.


Supply Chain Management involves factors like inventory, materials and production while logistics management involves factors like demand and forecasting ideas. Some experts also say that logistics management is part of supply chain management which meets the demand of the customers. Also supply chain management includes procurement and conversion factors. SCM makes successful movements and storage of raw materials - designing, planning, executing, controlling and monitoring component of supply chain activities.


Logistics Management controls the flow of products and services from different locations to consumers. Business Logistics is defined as having the right product in the right quantity at the right time in the right place for the right price in the right condition to the right consumer. Logistics also manages materials and channels of distribution.
